Microsoft has announced that Skype for Business Online will be retired on July 31, 2021. Moreover, the service will no longer be accessible after the aforementioned date. The current Skype for Business Online clients will remain unaffected until the retirement. However, it is important to note that all new Office 365 customers will directly on-board to Microsoft Teams for chat, meetings, and calling starting September 1, 2019.
Microsoft has decided to rebrand Office Online to simply Office moving forward. They have now chosen to discontinue usage of the “Online” branding with all the Office apps, which means “Word Online” is now “Word,” “Excel on line” is now “Excel,” etc.
Also, it is important to note here that this rebranding only applies to Office apps. There is no change to the branding of the “Online” server products. Specifically Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Project Online, and Office Online Server.
